Welcome To First Friends

First Friends is a small, friendly nursery which holds a total of 36 children from 3 months to 5 years. Our nursery is located just outside Derby City Centre with close access to the A52 and A38.

Our philosophy is to help children develop an understanding of their environment and the people around them – including their friends at nursery, the wider community and the natural world. From this, children can develop a sense of care and responsibility which is empowering, giving them a firm foundation from which to grow.

Testimonials

My son started the afterschool club at St Albans in September and he settled really well. He enjoys the large range of activities available and the interaction with the older children. He only goes twice a week but has asked to go everyday. The staff are very kind and also helpful.

Children learn how to keep healthy through, for example understanding the importance of good hygiene practice. They have ample opportunities to develop physically as the setting has a well-equipped outdoor area and suitable resources so that children can learn to climb, balance and negotiate space.
The learning environment for the babies is bright and vibrant. The toys and activities that are put out for them offer a challenging and enjoyable experience where they make choices about what they want to play with.
Ofsted
Children are cared for in a warm and welcoming environment where their individual needs are given appropriate consideration. On the whole, the learning environment and methods used to promote children's learning supports their progress towards the early learning goals.

My child was a very fussy eater when he started nursery, but now he has come on so much and is willing to try anything now. I like how the nursery put a lot of thought and care into the care they provide. The different areas within the rooms always seemed to vary from month to month, and my child’s planning always supported their learning.
Our daughter’s confidence has built well since joining First Friends. The nursery is well set up with lots for the children to get involved in and the care workers always listen to what the children are interested in and enhance their learning through this.
From the first visit we felt warmth and family feel that we hadn’t experienced at the larger nurseries. The care is continuous, there is fantastic partnership between you and the First Friends staff, the key workers take as much care of your child as you would and know them inside out.
